Anchor Text Guidelines

Hypertexting a word, keyword or phrase is the practice of placing terms you want a given page to rank for in anchor text that links to another web page or another web site. This not only manipulates the search results but also indicates the weight that the engines will give to the text webpages that are used to link to the landing pages. Also search engines are fond of anchor text because from the user’s insight they are of utmost importance. Precisely by categorizing your pages through relevant keyword links you tell the search engines which keywords the linked pages represent. When used properly these hypertexted keywords increases the relevancy of your web pages to search engines and helps your site rank better for desired keywords.
Especially in Google, Anchor Text has great significance. Hence, while deciding your Anchor Text, it would be wise to

(1) Decide what's best for the user.
(2) Hypertexting the keyword that is easily understood by the user.
(3) Honesty pays. Be straightforward about your anchor text.
(4) Use them sensibly in navigation maps because these are the links that are most often used by the site visitors.
(5) The Index page of your site is the messenger of your intentions. All content interpreted on the INDEX page MUST be in accordance to the needs of live-visitors and Search Engine Spiders. The INDEX page often has a higher page rank than internal pages, so it becomes all the more very important to chose the Anchor Text sensibly because the more forceful it will be the more it will push spider traffic while correlating the keyword (anchor text) with the landing page.
(6) Anchor Links on internal pages do not have high relevance but is important to the visitors. It also adds to a good internal linking strategy.
(7) The external link strategy calls for effective anchor text selection.
(8) Creating a clutter of hyperlinks at the bottom of the page does not yield any good. An effective link positioning is from top left to bottom right.
(9) Exact anchors that best support the content on the landing page are highly revered by the search engines.
(10) Internal site linking structure has a considerable impact on sustaining weight, relevancy, and Page Rank to similar contemporary pages.
