Some Good Linking Strategies

A good link strategy is one that offers content, products, and services that will help and interest your visitors.

Do not divert from the theme-What is your site’s main topic or theme? Stick to it while
linking with other sites. A well articulated theme increases your search engine rank and helps visitors find the information they need, thus bringing more targeted traffic to your site.

Are your links popular?-The more popular the inbound and outbound links, better will be your site’s ranking in the search engines because search engines don't consider the number of links; they appraise the relative importance of inbound and outbound links. So instead of stuffing 500 irrelevant and unrelated links in to your site, it is advisable to have 100 related and relevant ones.

Beware of automated link generators-Automated programs sending emails to other webmasters offering to trade links are a big no no. Personalize your
linking strategy by sending a personalized email that explains to the other webmaster why you want to link to his/her site and what you particularly like about his/her site.

Use contextual links-Always include links in the page content containing the page’s keywords as against links sent to a site's "Related Links" page. Content links help search engines rank the importance of a link and put it in the proper context. It would be really helpful if you try to identify a particular page that perfectly fits with your links as far as page’s content is concerned. Also keep a note of the exact location of the page concerned when you ask for a link. This will show the other webmaster that you have taken out time to check out his/her website.

So the fact is that a good
linking strategy can do wonders for your website. It not only makes you an authority in a particular area but also inspires more and more people to come to your website for information. Search engines spiders will love you and you will no longer need to run mindlessly after links.
